From 1955 to 1967, the Powercar company of Mystic, Connecticut built driv able 1/3 or 1/4 scale Ford Thunderbirds! They built versions of these things for both kids and adults, with the difference being that the adult versions featured larger axles and pneumatic tires. Some of them even used the same motors real Thunderbirds use ... Well, the starter motor , on the ele ctric version. T he gas-powered version   used a Briggs & Stratton engine. The electric version topped out at about 5 mph, which means you probably wouldn ’t win a drag race against the neighbor’s kid’s Barbie Jeep. But if you got the gas version, it could go a whole whopping 15 mph out of the box, or 22 mph if you removed the governor! Take that, Barbie! And it even featured working headlights, to assist you in those midnight neighborhood Barbie Jeep street races! Until the HOA President’s kid comes out with his Police Power Wheels car and ruins all the fun , that is. Freaking Walter. He can go suck an egg.

Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, tiny Thunderbirds. Don’t these look like fun?

I’ll take a 1966 model in orange, please and thank you.

I wonder how hard it would be to swap newer batteries and electr ic motors in there and register it as a low-speed NEV...

OMG, when I first looked I thought these were the things that the Shriners are driving on the cover of “FrankenChrist”.

I mean, which is faster, finding one of these or getting yours running?

Mine is already running, there are no more mechanical maladies or leaks, a lthough I do need to re tune the carburetor for the cold as it’s having trouble starting . But I still want a tiny one! It would make traveling between classes on campus so much fun.

I think those are either tiny Oldsmobile Cutlasses or Buick Skylarks.

It appears that they do, and the entire front end of the car is devoted to them. It definitely doesn’t look like something I would describe as “roomy”, but it seems adequate.

It really would. Honestly, I’d do the same.

Glad your car is running properly.

I’d seen the Mustangs before, but not the Dodges or Desotos. Did they make a Charger? If you were a kid with a miniature electric Dodge Charger, you would be the cooles t kid in town...

Not sure on the Charger, most of the Dodge/Desoto/Plymouth ones I have seen were late 50's cars. 1957-1959. I think they mainly went to just Ford cars in the 60's

After seeing how slick the motor/diff/control system is on Torch’s Changli, I wonder if you can order those parts off Alibaba for cheap?  Could retrofit onto your classic 1/3 scale T-bird.

Wheelbase might be slightly wider, but nothing a little custom fab can’t fix I’m sure!

My uncle drove a VW Ghia convertible in the 60s. They bought their daughter a miniature electric copy and would drive both in the town’s 4th of July parade. (He was the town doctor). I don’t have photos of any of those, but here is an ad photo of her car.

Policeman, Policeman, help me please! Someone went and stole my knees. I’d chase them down but I suspect my feet and legs just won’t connect.
